It all happened fairly quickly, but we got confirmation that Jarome Luai will join the Parramatta Eels for the 2027 NRL season.
He’s a controversial character and plenty in blue and gold will be questioning the decision to bring in a one-year rental at a key playmaking position. Lorenzo Talataina and Lincoln Fletcher will be considered as young players with their path to first grade blocked for at least another season. Ronald Volkman is playing the best football of his career but no longer has a place at the club.
Still, when you have a player of Luai’s quality available, and the sort of halves partner he can thrive alongside, you have to think about it. Youngsters playing around experience, winning games and playing well develop better than those on the wrong end of thrashings every week whether it be in reserve grade or first grade. Luai raises the floor of a team currently sitting 15th on the ladder.
